Gabi Bakes Cakes is a one-person cake design studio based in Killorglin, County Kerry. Gabi specialises in handcrafted wedding cakes, bespoke birthday creations, and corporate treats for clients across Kerry, Cork, and Limerick. She brings a distinctly personal approach to her work—everything is made to order, with attention to detail and a whole lot of heart.
This project needed a website that matched Gabi’s creativity, told her story, and performed brilliantly on Google, voice search, and AI-powered recommendations. I delivered a full-service solution that included web design and development, custom photography, SEO, and ongoing content support.
Designing the Site
I built gabibakescakes.com using WordPress and Elementor, giving Gabi a flexible and beautifully designed platform that’s easy to update and visually rich. The layout focuses on spacious design, soft colour palettes, and large images that put her cakes front and centre.
Core features include:
- Dedicated landing pages for wedding cakes, corporate gifts, and seasonal specials
- Internal linking strategies that build topical authority
- Localised content targeting customers in Kerry, Cork, and Limerick
- A responsive mobile design for users browsing on the go
- Speed-optimised performance with clean code and compressed media
Photography
Gabi’s cakes are works of art, so the site photography had to match. I shot product and brand photography for her site, covering:
- Hero images for the homepage and category pages
- Individual cake shots that highlight intricate decoration and texture
- Portfolio and blog imagery, including lifestyle scenes and flat-lays
- Corporate event coverage (e.g. cupcakes and cookies for Fexco’s event at RDI Hub, Killorglin)
Each image was optimised for web performance and accessibility, with descriptive alt text to help with SEO and inclusive browsing.
A Search-Optimised Structure
From the beginning, SEO was a priority. The site is structured with schema markup, proper heading hierarchies, and conversational phrasing that performs well for voice search and AI-driven results. Content is created with both Google and real people in mind.
Two standout SEO features:
1. Wedding Venue Pages
These pages offer guides to wedding venues across Munster where Gabi’s cakes have been featured. Each venue:
- Mentions specific cakes served there
- Links to those cakes’ individual pages
- Is optimised for venue-specific keywords (e.g. “wedding cake for Sheen Falls Lodge”)
2. Client Wedding Cake Stories
These pages showcase real couples’ cakes and cross-reference:
- Venue pages
- Collaborating vendors (florists, planners, stylists)
- Wedding photographers (linked when their images are used)
This web of internal links helps search engines understand relationships between content types, while also providing rich, interconnected information for users. It’s a structure designed not just for search performance—but for people planning a wedding who want to see real-world inspiration.
Ongoing Content and Results
I continue to work with Gabi on content strategy and SEO. Together we’ve created:
- Blog posts, such as “Wedding Cake Prices in Ireland 2025”
- New cake listings (e.g. Eternal Blossom Cake, Family Ties Cake, Raspberry Blossom Charm)
- SEO-focused FAQs and internal links for trust-building and rankings
The site ranks on the first page for multiple high-value queries, such as “wedding cakes Kerry”, “corporate cupcakes with logo Ireland”, and “bespoke birthday cakes Killorglin”. With its structured content and internal links, it also performs well in AI-powered search results and Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE).
A Cake Designer on the Rise
In 2024, Gabi was awarded the Highly Commended honour for Cake Designer of the Year at the Let’s Talk Weddings Awards. Her website now reflects the quality of her work—both visually and technically.
“Working with Dave was seamless. The website feels exactly like me—and it works.” – Gabi
